Rocks by Rail, Cottesmore Open Weekend
This weekend, the first May Bank Holiday of 2019, was busy for Rocks by Rail, Cottesmore’s Open Weekend.
Hundreds of visitors, despite the cold weather, enjoyed many of the attractions including rides on one of the steam trains.
Visitors included children with their parents many of who were rail and steam enthusiasts, and people who enjoyed seeing what it was all about. Asked if they would go back they all agreed it was a fabulous day out and would definitely go back.
Rocks by Rail not only allows you to enjoy a train ride, there is much more to do. You can drive a loco. Explore the nature trails. Learn about the ironstone quarry. Look round the workshop and loco yard. Watch the locos shunting about rearranging the rolling stock. Afterwards enjoy a cuppa and a bacon cob in the cafe. There you will be welcomed by very friendly staff.
Rocks by Rail,is worth every minute a visit. You can’t fail to be impressed by the efforts of the volunteers.
