Melton and Rutland police have released details of a Melton police officer injured after an incident in Thorpe Road, Melton Mowbray
After stopping a vehicle the officers tried to talk to the driver. One of the officers, PC Davey Rawlings said “An officer asked the driver to get out of the car”.
The driver refused the officers request and started to drive off while the officer was leaning through the driver’s window.
The car was eventually stopped and the driver, a 21 years old man, was arrested and his vehicle seized.
He was taken into custody for failing to stop, possession with intent to supply class A drugs, driving while unfit through drugs and grievous bodily harm.
The driver has since been released but remains under investigation while enquiries are still ongoing.
After the incident the injured officer went to the Leicester Royal Infirmary
His injuries were not serious and he was later discharged from the hospital.
PC Rawlings said ” This was a cowardly act that could have resulted in a very serious injury. Thankfully it didn’t”
