As from today-23rd May-Oakham’s bus station waiting room temporary closure will take place due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Local bus operators have been running a reduced service for the past few weeks because of the pandemic. In light of the new lockdown measures it is feared there will be more visitors to the county. This will possibly encourage more people to use the services.
With an expected increase in passenger numbers the waiting room has been closed until further notice to support social distancing.
Councillor Lucy Stephenson, Cabinet Member for Transport Said “Given the significant reduction in local bus services and passenger numbers over the past two months, there has been very little use of the waiting area at Oakham Bus Station. As a result, social distancing has not been an issue. Some COVID-19 restrictions are now being eased. However, social distancing rules are likely to remain a feature of our daily lives for some time. As and when more passengers return to public transport, it will become increasingly difficult to maintain social distancing within the confines of the waiting room. We’re therefore closing this area and putting measures in place to help people follow social distancing rules outside, while they wait.”
The Coronavirus pandemic has been with us in the UK now for over two months and has caused tens of thousands of deaths. During this time frontline personnel have performed their jobs with no regard for their own safety and for that they must be thanked by everyone.
